Man caves are a growing trend on Instagram, with more and more men and women both creating spaces that they can personalise and truly call their own, inviting friends around and escaping from the rest of the world. Whether it’s a ‘man cave’ or a ‘she shed’ they are no longer just confined to a corner in the spare room, no, they are much more than that, as we found out…
The team at Internet Gardener have long been noticing a trend for people converting sheds and cabins into their own space. So, this got us thinking, maybe this is all part of a much bigger trend, so we decided to look into it. We recently managed to find the top 10 plants millennials were buying by using Instagram data, so we thought why not do the same for man caves? So we did!

Amount of likes you could get on your Instagram, per trend:
- Superhero/sport memorabilia: 3,128
- Neon lights: 1,274
- Video Games: 998
- Guitar: 901
- Bar stools: 834
- Upcycled furniture: 529
- Home cinema: 455
- Arcade games: 408
- Retro Signs: 169

The top 100 posts from almost 1.5 million images across the following hashtags were analysed to see which significant items featured in each individual post; #ManCaveDecor, #ManCaveGoals, #ManCaveIdeas, #ManCaveStuff, #ManCave. The most significant features were taken from each post, across all five hashtags and cross-referenced to find a definitive top ten man cave trends. The top 100 posts for each trend were taken and the average amount of likes taken to form the list of likes per trend.
